Sakai – Library session – quick notes

CREE – University of Hull
user requirements
methodology – survey, focus groups, user testing
only at the user testing stage, started getting more interesting results,
embedding the search tools,
VLE – Virtual Learning Environment, tested
They use uPortal – can have search tools – channels, How – can embed a search box as with other contexts – then results display outside the channel
CREE – examine third option
JSR 168
WSRP
found JSR 168 easier to work with, tested with single tool and multiple tools / channels
metasearch – getref – univ of edinburgh
greater interest is in search tool types that users do not know who to access elsewhere – broke down barriers, an click on link, but they don’t kow what is at the end of the link. highest demand is for access to search tools relevant to subject (this is better than access to just lib cat and google), preference was for search tools embedded in cms
UK projects – linking VLEs and digital libraries (JISC) (DiVLE)
